Being a parent or a teacher is pretty daunting in today's age. You’re just not interesting or attractive enough to keep the child's attention glued to you. So imagine doing that one most important thing we all are supposed to do as parents and teachers - make them study...next to impossible!! You could pull all your hair out and it still won’t be enough .Gone are those days where a stick could do the trick. Today kids need something more inhuman. Yes inhuman and I mean it only literally. What you and I can’t do a machine can do that is to gain the kids attention. Games, videos, cartoons, movies all are available on phones these days and it’s become the only thing kids want. Machine has won this war too.
So what can we as parents and
teachers do?? Give in to their wants... I say yes
Now scientists and
researchers all over the world have been advising us to limit the screen time
and yes it should be done but what I am offering you all here is a bargain
.Instead of them watching all sort of cartoons you can get them hooked onto
educational sites and apps. A lot of us must be aware and already using
technology to teach kids and most of us may not be. So all of those who aren't
aware and are looking for ways to include technology in your child's studies, let
me introduce you all to my current bestfriend - the EDMODO app
EDMODO is a very simple app which
has lots of benefits. It looks almost exactly like facebook and even the ways
to operate it is similar. Through this app you can share various notes, links,
ppt etc. You can even conduct quiz and assignments. The app does the evaluation
part for you and thus helps you keep a track of your child's progress. You and
your kid can use this app on your computer, mobile, tab etc. Since its similar
to facebook it will give your child all the feels of using a social networking
site and you get to be stress free.
Don't worry EDMODO is absolutely
safe as no strangers allowed unless you share your class code . So parents you
all can sign in as teacher and can add your kids , even their friends and their
parents too. This way you can create a very cool virtual study circle for your
kids. There tons of other apps and videos that you as parents and teachers can
use and include such as proboard, SmartLearning channel on youtube, Mystudylife
,Brainscape etc
So go ahead and use technology to
you and your child's advantage.
